Location: Myeongdong (명동)
How to get there: Get off 명동 station (Exit 5) & walk straight. Walk into Forever 21 & exit through the other side haha… seriously it’s the easiest way I can describe it. When you exit via the mini escalators, walk outside & look up. You should see a building with “LAS VEGAS HOF” on it. This Don Katsu place is right beneath the Las Vegas Hof on the 2nd floor.

I shared this plate of don katsu with my friend Angela for dinner. We decided on the pork cutlet katsu since it was the most original thing they have there. Supposedly, this is the place that has the don katsu challenge. If you can finish their original plate under a certain amount of time, you get your plate for free + your picture on the wall or something of the sort. I’ve never tried don katsu before this so it was new to me. The sauce is what makes this dish unique. I can’t really describe the taste or smell of the don katsu sauce, it’s something you have to try for yourself. The plate included a side of rice, coleslaw, pickles, what I thought was super cute, tater tots! Our plate was around 6,000 원 so $5.50 USD? It’s a good place for a cheap & filling dinner. Plus the location is great… you’re right across from Forever 21 and in the heart of Myeongdong.
Interesting fact? This dish is actually of Japanese origin. It’s often referred to as tonkatsu but they call it don katsu in Korea. I have a feeling don katsu is a lot like jajjangmyun… of different origin but eaten more often in Korea. I heard there was a don katsu kimbap at 김밥 전국 so I might have to try that for lunch one day.
