I somehow just finished the second week of winter quarter… And the plus for week 2 is that I went to school all five days this past week. 수고 하셨어 to me! A review of all my classes so far:
- KOREAN 1B – This is going to be my GPA booster class of the quarter. After showing the Korean department coordinator my KLI transcript (I passed Level 2), she decided to place me into Korean 1B because that was where the “grammar matched up.” She even put me in the heritage class (Koreans who don’t speak Korean). So yea, we’re doing chapters 10-20 this quarter. It’s excruciatingly slow & the class is taught in English. I miss instruction in Korean. I miss being challenged. But all the new kids get thrown into this level so whatever, hello easy A class.
- TRANS GANGS – I was immediately impressed with this class during the first meeting. Besides learning about the structure & impact of transnational gangs, the professor is also pretty awesome. I heard he was an easy professor but he’s also pretty down to earth. He said “I already found my dream so now it’s my job to help you find yours.” AWWWWWWWW.
- SOV & SEC SOUTH EAST ASIA – I already took Sadiq’s other class “Politics of Migration” which I loved so I’m used to his style of teaching. His class is always a work in progress & we basically present our readings to the class during our assigned weeks. But the concept of security & sovereignty is really hard for me to grasp so this will be challenging in that aspect. Plus there’s a shitload of reading each week.
- STATS 10B – worst . class . ever . The professor is/has been off his rocker for years now… I never go to lectures because there’s no point. It’s a self-study class & I’m okay with that. I wish I had my TA from last year again… my current TA talks like a douchebag. One of those “white-washed Asians” who are so philosophical. Fabulous, whatever… I just need a C to pass. I plan on getting a C+.
Other than that, I spend my time at home either babysitting my cousin Vu, scrapbooking, feeding the ducks (my brother decided to get TWO new pet ducks -_-), making cards from scratch, & thinking of ways to go back to Korea.
