It’s been a week since I’ve been back in Korea and at work. I have to admit, I missed April. More importantly, I’ve missed the children. And the majority of them missed me as well 😀 They went apeshit over the Valentine cards I handed out. I’ve been spoiling them with other snacks as well. For the most part, the sub was okay. Just… OKAY. Nowhere near April material, but hey, it was only for two weeks. My biggest pet peeve was that he stapled shit on my wall. Like, what the fuck, how am I supposed to get the staples out??? He also questioned my unhealthy obsession with Angry Birds… to which my kids replied: “WHO DOESN’T LIKE ANGRY BIRDS??”
Other than that, everything’s been great. The only downside is the horrific Korean winter weather. There is nothing beautiful about this winter wonderland. The winds are harsh and I have 2 heaters on in my classroom… one for the whole class and one pointed directly at me. To most Korean children, Room 208 feels like a jimjilbang… but to Doris Teacher, it’s necessary to keep me from cussing.
My attempts at organizing my apartment have been unsuccessful. I came back to Korea with 3 suitcases and had another 2 boxes shipped to me. Yet, I still feel that I do not have enough goods to keep me happy… Everything’s just all over my floor. On most days, I am way too tired to do anything anyways. So I end up picking up a snack from the floor, recline on my couch, & stare at all my American goods. Living the good life, really.
