Day 2 of my experiment. Things weren’t so great today in that I wasn’t feel all that well to begin with. I spent the whole day teaching with this migraine on the right side of my head. I didn’t even get to take any meds until like 11pm. But back to the food. It wasn’t great either. The snack stand attached to the Hyundai Itel finally started selling gung-jung ddok-bokki (궁중떢볶이) so I stopped by to get some during my prep hour before work. While waiting for my order, I also noticed a new Korean snack item… waffle on a stick! Since I love waffles as a snack & everything tastes better on a stick, I added one to my order.
Both meals were very disappointing. The rice cakes were way too spicy. Not the savory spicy like regular ddok-bokki were supposed to be. It was just straight up spicy. Gung-jung ddok-bokki is supposed to be soy sauce-based and therefore, more sweet versus spicy. I’ve had better in downtown Eunhaengdong and in the DIY bag at Home Plus. I only had a few bites since I wasn’t feeling like having a heartburn for the rest of the day.
I broke into the waffle on a stick during my 5 o’clock class block. I was soooooo angry when it wasn’t amazingly delicious. What I assumed to be caramel & chocolate sauce turned out to be some sort of sweet potent syrup. It tasted slightly chocolatey but it was too sharp to be chocolate sauce itself. The waffle was too cake-like & did not work well with the syrup at all. So to supplement my diet today, I ended up eating crackers & jelly. Ugh, fail day.
