In accordance to some new rule that has been decided as of last week, the foreign hagwon workers of Daejeon were forced to attend some “seminar” at the Department of Education this morning across from City Hall. We were told that attendance would be strictly monitored & that we would have to check-in at various intervals to confirm that we were in attendance for the entire duration.
Of course, this is a last-minute Korean style meeting. Which meant: not starting on time, unorganized registration, giving up & making people sit, passing out papers for everyone to fill out all at once, speakers going over time, and photographers trying to capture inspirational photos of white people looking inspired.
We started the meeting off with the Korean national anthem. I was so close to pledging allegiancing it up… We had 2 speakers. The first one focused on quality-like stuff. I think they were attempting to inspire us to become better and boost the egos of those whose egos do not need to be boosted. Does that make sense?? The second guy focused on everything we already knew about. “How to get an E-2 visa”… Um, excuse me sir, all of us are already here on an E-2 visa! I heard a lot of redundant information & I zoned out most of the time, working on my practice CBEST test.
The only bit of information that had me laughing today was when the second speaker mentioned how to always ran into foreigners at the Dunsan police station. Seriously, people hahaha, keep it classy won’t you?? Anyways, the best part about this meeting was that it started at 9:30am and lasted until about noon… Look chingoos, you are not going to inspire me at all if you’re making me wake up at an ungodly hour like that.
I walked to TimeWorld with Jess & Kristina afterwards for some Mickey D’s and shopping. We cabbed it back to the Itel with about 30 minutes to spare before work. What a long ass day it has been. On the plus side… oh wait, there is no plus side. GOOD NIGHT!
