Today was the last day of my 5-day weekend courtesy of Chuseok (추석) & Foundation Day (개천날). Since we were told that we would also have Tuesday in addition to Monday & Wednesday off at the last minute, I was unable to really go anywhere. Plus, it is currently right before payday as well. Which means, INSUFFICIENT FUNDS! On Saturday, I had dinner with Allen & Asuncion in Noeun. I never really traveled there before so it was nice to see a new part of Daejeon. We stumbled upon a Chinese restaurant that served PEKING DUCK. It was amazing. I’m pretty sure they fried that duck but that’s probably why it was so delicious. It was served with some flat bread (the tortilla version of banh bao). My god, what an awesome meal. Definitely going back after pay day. After dinner, we headed back to Asuncion’s to watch Sherlock (BBC version).
Asuncion & I took the 8:44 Mugunghwa to Seoul for the Chuseok holidays. Well, we had nothing better to do in Daejeon & it had been awhile since we made our appearance at the Keppy household so we thought why not. I slept so well on the train! I’ve been stuck with a cold for the past week so that meant nasal congestion, chest pains, and lack of sleep. Who knew… all I needed was a 2-hour train ride to cure it all. We had Popeye’s (from the base!) for lunch and lounged around after that. I attempted to play with Cinnamon for a bit for taking a nap on the magical couch. People from Erin’s office came over to have a Chuseok dinner. Except the food was everything but Korean. We had Kalua pork, mango & sticky rice, pavlova, cashew rice, and moscato! We had mandatory fun time which was basically a game of Apples to Apples. We decided that the green cards you won were to describe your personality.
Monday morning was spent eating leftovers in omelette form. After eating, Asuncion & I headed over to Myungdong to do a little “eye shopping”. Eye shopping turned into a massive sale at H&M, Zara, & Forever 21. It broke my heart a little since I knew I couldn’t spent much (anything). I did walk away with 2 sweaters & 1 scarf… only 23,000원! We headed back to the apartment afterwards since Richard was coming back from Hong Kong (with presents :D). We (& when I say we, I mean Asuncion) fried up some eggrolls & shrimp pastries from my mom. Erin busted out her new dipping sauces from Thailand as well 🙂 Gawd, it’s days like these that makes me want to move to Seoul. Eating fried goodness at the Keppys and having Cinnamon sneak around my feet waiting for me to drop something.
Monday & Tuesday was spent being lazy in Daejeon. Besides going out for dinner & roaming Homeplus and/or Emart, I really didn’t do anything productive at all. I watched some more episodes of Sherlock… & each episode was about 1.5 hours so that really made the day fly by. Well, back to work tomorrow… except it’s supplementary day so it’ll just be quiz game & movies.
