My vacation has been very relaxing so far. I’m going back to my former life of waking up at a sensible time (10:30am), driving around Orange County, and buying stuff I don’t really need. But in reality, having these American products on hand is what keeps my life comfortable in Korea. Can’t live without my ranch dip or cornbread mix!
I’ve been to Disneyland twice, once with my cousin for her birthday (11 already!) and once with Casey씨. Obviously the trip with my cousin was somewhat awkward. I remember her as the bubbly 7 year old with a Hannah Montana obsession. She is now a smart-mouthed 11 year old whose knowledge of pop culture is frightening. I spent the day going on rides with her and her other cousins as a chaperone. It was fun… minus the horrific sunburn/chapstick allergy I got. Never trust Chapstick branded crap. Shit can kill you man.
I spent Martin Luther King Day hanging out with Esther씨 and Casey씨 at the Irvine Spectrum & dog park – appropriately named Central Bark. God bless Esther씨 for driving me… god knows it would’ve taken me 5 days to navigate my way to and around Irvine. We had lunch at Ruby’s Diner… a place I’ve been waiting years to eat at again. Best moment:
Waiter: How many?
Casey: Party of six!
After carting our dogs around and posing for pictures, we drove over to Central Bark, which was also somewhere in Irvine. It was fun watching dogs run around. 토끼 (Casey’s dog) was extremely social and ran off right away. Angel, being the enthusiastic senior citizen that she was, did her best to explore the park with whatever strength was left in her. My dog?… hid under the bench the entire time out of fear. Breakfast was like this when we did obedience school as well. He responds well to most humans (minus Asian men) but seems to freak out when he’s in public. I feel bad for him… I tried leaving him alone to see if he would interact with the other dogs but to no avail. Ehhh at least he tried.
This past Saturday, I went to Disneyland again with Casey씨. We were debating between a day of shopping or spending $87 to get into Disneyland. The deciding factor? Knowing how fabulous our picture would look in front of the magic castle. The weather was so perfect! There was this gloomy looking overcast throughout the day… no chance to sunburn! The lines for the rides were all very short as well. Our longest wait was 40 minutes (by mistake) for some creepy Roger Rabbit ride… The best part of Disneyland is the food. God bless you gumbo, garlic fries, pineapple dole whip, and family-sized fried chicken. Also, we decided to end the night by continuously going on Astro Blasters 7 times in a row. Overall, a great decision to attend and well worth the money!
Now that Casey has left for New York again, I’m back to roaming the streets of Orange County with caution on my own. I basically want to buy clothes that actually fit me and ship it all back to Korea. I also plan to stuff my face with Vietnamese and Mexican food until I burst. As far as meeting up with people, I’ve pretty much seen everyone I intended to. More hangouts with Tina of course but other than that, I’m good!
