On August 16th, we had Parent’s Day at my work. It’s basically the showcase day for all the summer camp students. This summer, we had Seed kids do the Toy Story Musical and all the other levels did a combination of speech, science project, and musical.
First of all, it was a packed house. Seriously, grandmothers & babies all the way to aunts and uncles. The most interesting part of this day was that Sprout’s musical was down a performer. We had this great kid (Charles) lined up to play both the Wicked Witch and the Wizard of Oz. Two days before the big show, he mysteriously falls ill and we can’t get in touch with him. So what do we do? We add Juliet Teacher & Doris Teacher into the mix. Juliet played the witch and I played with wizard.
It was a ghetto time in that I (the wizard) had to push out my own throne (a rolling desk chair), sit my ass down, perform, and roll back my chair backstage. Low budget production hahaha. Anyways, the show felt a lot longer this year but we did have more performances this time around. After cleaning up for a bit, we went to Kogi for Suzanne’s goodbye dinner.
I’m so glad AIS is over (for now). I think between Wizard of Oz and Ali Baba, I definitely like Ali Baba better. The kids were slightly older and therefore, “cooler.” Jack & Daniel, I’m talking about you! This AIS consisted of a younger group of kids who were definitely smarter. And sassier. Seriously, they loved to scold me & tell me what I’m doing wrong. Again, so glad that’s over with.
