Asuncion had a huge BBQ/party for her birthday this year. She rented a pension-type house in Daejeon. It’s located somewhere near the Gapcheon River and a Homeplus. Honestly, I have no clue haha. It’s the same place where she had her Christmas party last year. This year, the theme was mediterranean food. Richard was able to come up for the party from Busan. I was in charge of the cake this year. After waking up at 10am and finishing the remainder of her cake, I met up with Richard and Asuncion to head over to the party place. From about 4pm, we spent time prepping everything. Here is a picture of Richard on garnish duty:
Clearly, excelling at his job haha. People started trickling in around 5pm and the party started from there. This was so different from any typical Daejeon gathering simply because of the food. It was themed and everything coordinated. We had everything from couscous, croquettes, paella, shrimp and garlic, chicken skewers, falafels, and various dips from around the world.
All the food was super delicious! My favorites were the couscous, garlic shrimp, falafels, and this magical dip called toum. It is basically garlic and olive oil with a bit of lemon juice. It reminds me of the banh mi mayonnaise my mom used to make back in the day. After a bit of chilling out, we gathered on the patio to have some cake!
I made Asuncion a 2 tier carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Of course, I had to add on some buttercream flowers hehe. Otherwise, what good was my past month in flower cake decorating class? The weather was nice so we hung out for a bit before we started to clean everything up. People who disappear when it’s time to clean amuse me. HMMM. We finished everything around 11pm and went out to Hongdae LP for a bit before heading home to crash. Overall, a great day with great people!
