My birthday weekend was filled with so much food and relaxation! I’m so grateful to have friends who are not useless. Saturday was very relaxing. I slept in and bought myself a present haha. Let’s face it. If you want something, buy it yourself. At night, I met up with Gaz and Asuncion to try out the Lotte City Hotel Buffet. I’ve heard of the one in Seoul, but I wanted to see what the Daejeon one was about. The price was 55,000 krw per person. It’s not bad considering it is a hotel buffet.
The best part was the crab legs. You don’t get shit like this out here in Korea at any regular place. Another dish I really liked was the marinated artichokes and onions. Gaz decided to order some champagne to celebrate. The funny thing was that the waiter asked me how old I was hahahahaha. He almost asked for my ID, but I think he was embarrassed when Asuncion said it was my birthday. Overall, it was a wonderful meal with some wonderful friends. We walked halfway home and watched the strangest movie ever – Kungfu Pow – Enter the Fist.
On Sunday morning, I went up to Seoul to do a bit of street shopping in Namdaemun. I bought my mom some ‘shrooms and other junk. I stopped into the Shinsaegae Department Store nearby to see what new foreign foods they had. Little Papa Pho’ now has an express location there. Too bad the line was long… I really wanted banh mi! I went to Myeongdong afterwards for some subpar pho’ and some more eye shopping. So much sparkly shit at H&M!
I met up with Martha in Hongdae to go to the Mac Store. We roamed around Hongdae scheming of ways to get rich. We decided to get a snack at the best place in the world – TACO BELL! That place never fails me at all.
Around 6:30pm, I met up with Gaz and Asuncion again to have dinner at Beastro. I’ve been hearing so much about this place for over a year now. So glad I finally got to try it!
For appetizers, we ordered salmon rillete and baked brie with tomato citrus jam. I’m not much of a cheese eater, but that cheese was awesome! The orangey-tomato jam was perfect with it.
For the main course, we ordered bacon brussel sprouts, hangar steak, and biscuits and gravy. That biscuits and gravy dish was amazing! So much sage and butter all in one dish. The hangar steak was so tender and soft. I normally don’t eat red meat like that but this was so good that I didn’t even care.
Gaz told our server that it was my birthday haha. Good thing he did because they gave us a free dessert! It was a lemon curd parfait of some sort. It was filled with crushed Lotus ginger biscuits and layered with lemon curd filling. SO EFFING GOOD!
Overall, I had a very delicious weekend. I’m not much of a birthday celebrator, but I think I should start. It’s great to be alive and do whatever the fuck I want. I like having dinner with friends. I like delicious food. Why not combine the two? Anyways, I’m grateful for such wonderful friends who take time out of their schedules to eat with me. <3
