Location: Gungdong, Daejeon (궁동, 대전)
How To Get There: Arrive at Chungnam University’s front gate and turn left. The cafe is sort of hidden but if you follow Naver map and walk around the Chungnam area, it will be located near the front gate.
This place has been around since 2012, right around the time Nuovo Napoli opened as well. Nuovo Napoli is the parent pizza restaurant down the street. I’ve heard a lot about it, but never had the chance to visit until recently. After having dinner at Nuovo Napoli, my friends and I walked down the street (via directions from the staff) to locate this mysterious cafe. Rumor has it, they serve beignets!
The menu is mainly drinks, like any other coffee shop. The beignets show up towards the end of the menu where the snacks are listed. They had a few combos available – berries, plain, nutella banana, to name a few. All the beignet sets range from 4,000 – 4,500 won, depending on how fancy you want to get with your toppings. Another cool thing I noticed was that they had Cafe Du Monde! I haven’t seen that since I was a kid.
My friends and I ordered 3 sets to share. My favorite one was definitely the nutella banana combo. Everything tastes better with nutella on top! The berries combo was nice as well, although I do wish they heated the berries before pouring it on top the beignets. The plain beignets were right on point as well. I know they used beignet mix and I’m perfectly fine with that. They didn’t try to change it and warp it into some miserable attempt at fusion food.
I’d love to go back to this place more often because beignets are not something you find regularly in Korea. Unfortunately… I have no clue how to get there haha. Here’s a map (via Naver):
