I’m pretty late on this but… Happy New Year! I recently came back from a week-long vacation in America. Since Christmas fell on a Friday in 2015, I was able to fly out right on that day. My week at home was nothing out of the ordinary. It was filled with delicious food, lounging around with my dog Breakfast, and meeting up with the usual friends. What did suck about this trip was that I got sick midway through. I think it was a combination of weather change, wind, and not having central heating. I always love going home, but going home in the winter has its disadvantages. The days seem shorter and I get lazy when it’s dark outside. I’ll probably be home again this summer.
I’m currently teaching my last ever set of intensives at Chungdahm April. I only have two classes this time, Active Speaking & Reading (phonics-musical) and Debate (appropriately titled Debating with Doris – no, I’m not joking). Except I teach debate by myself back-t0-back, so really, it’s three classes. My schedule is pretty chill for the most part since I’ve been doing this for so long. The only crappy part is that my schedule starts at 9:30am every single day. I do get a nice lunch break but man, I just want to sleep in sometimes! On Friday, after lunch, I went to Starbucks for a pick-me-up and decided to just hang out there for a bit. It was nice. Peace and quiet away from the classroom makes all the difference. I think I will do that more often during intensives.
It’s funny that I am such a mess during intensives on a 9:30am-6:15pm work schedule since I will be working 10am to 8:15pm next year. I argue that the vibe at Seongbuk Poly is different. A good kind of different that makes working all day less miserable. Plus the people are pretty cool! I need to start packing and getting rid of stuff since I’ll be moving back to Seoul at the end of February.
I’m having a lazy weekend to recuperate from my vacation cold and the first week of intensives. I usually try to start out a new year with a bit more energy and enthusiasm but… I AM LAZY. I am lazy by nature when it does not involve work. I will attempt to leave the house tomorrow to walk around for a bit. But for now, I am tucked into my bear bed.
