What the hell even happened.
Even though I’ve only been back at Poly and living in Seoul for a month, I feel like I’ve been marinating here for a few years. It’s been kind of a rough-ish start since a bunch of teachers got sick. This meant losing prep times to cover their classes. No big deal, but when it happens week after week, it starts to become draining.
I’ve been making a lot of progress with my 6 year old class. And when I say progress, I mean me as a teacher. The kids are fantastic. They always have been. I was not ready to handle the ECP6 program and yet here I am. I’m starting to understand the ins and outs of teaching (Korean) 6 year olds. In reality, they are actually 4 waiting to turn 5. When they have their birthday party this year, they’ll be turning 5 years old. That means I actually teach 4 year olds. Good lord… Whoever thought it was a good idea for me to teach children this young must’ve been as high as a kite. I mean, my style is more strict than what an ECP6 teacher should be…. well, it was their call. If I’m too strict, then too bad hahaha.
I’m still adjusting to working a full day schedule. I’m pretty tired and hungry after work. I used to be okay when I worked here in the past. It took me about 3 months to adjust in the past. I’m hoping that after a few months, I’ll go back to my past eating schedule. I’m usually starving by 6pm and I pretty much don’t get to eat until about 7:30-8:15. I don’t eat anymore than I normally do.. but I hate that I am starving by the time I get out of work. I used to snack/have a mini meal during the 2:30 prep period, but nowadays, I’m still running around getting used to the new program. Once I get used to everything again, I’ll be back to snacking like a pro.
Overall, even though my work schedule is a lot more hectic nowadays, I’m still really glad I moved back to Seoul. I really like my co-workers and I think that plays a huge part in being happy at your job. My current coworkers know how to put up with my shenanigans. Heck, we even hang out outside of work from time to time. I truly appreciate them for putting up with me haha.
I hope April will be a good month. I look forward to getting out more and enjoying life in Seoul.
