October so far has been very busy. I meant to write this post towards the middle of October, but somehow, it is now the end of October. It’s debate season at Poly so I’ve been staying late at work on Mondays and Fridays to coach the kids competing from our campus. It’s… a work in progress. I sort of agreed to help out with coaching at the last minute this year. None of my students are actually competing, but I’m still helping out. Looking back on this, I should’ve thought about this a bit more. I am constantly tired and starving at work. Add Halloween events into the mix and I’ve been the most unexciting person for the past month. I mean, I was never that exciting to begin with…
I think I’ve really lost my interest in teaching debate this year. I only have two debate classes and the material is just outdated and not appropriately leveled for the groups I have. I don’t blame the kids for not being interested. Shit, I’m not interested either. Still, I had a fun year bonding with my students. They actually like to debate… just not about school lunch policies and parental responsibilities. They like to talk about things any normal 6th grader would like… make-up, KPOP, and teen angst. To me, those things make much more interesting debate topics anyways. They only have another two months before they graduate so I should find some way to sneak some fun into the class.
Let’s see… I went to a sweet potato farm two weeks ago for a field trip. It was pretty cute because my kids were so determined to do everything by themselves, only to give up after digging up half a sweet potato. Adorable. I got you kids. The farm was pretty unorganized and most likely overbooked for the day. We had to wait over 30 minutes in the fields for the hoes. HAHA… get it? Wait for the da hoezzz… Okay, sorry. 😀 But, this field trip finally gave me the chance to wear my overalls. Field trip appropriate outfit? I think so.
I spent most of today sleeping in. It was SO NICE not having to wake up to 3 alarm clocks. It was also really cold today so it was hard to get out of bed. I pretty much made it out by 4pm. I had pho’ as my first meal and went to Namdaemun to get some Halloween packaging. My mom packed me some discounted Halloween goods so I wanted to wrap them up for my kids.
Other than that, I plan to take it easy tomorrow. Nothing too stressful. I just need to get through the next week, go judge a debate competition, and then I can really breathe. Then I need to think about what I want to do next year. It’s time to re-sign or resign! Part of me wants to sit on my butt and eat potato chips. Any potato chip companies out there looking to hire a taste tester???
