In America, I grew up with an awesome snacked called Bugles. It’s a cone-shaped chip made of corn and usually flavored with barbecue or onion powder. Korea has a similar chip (꼬깔콘), but it has now been taken to the next level. While waiting in line to pay for my stuff at GS25, I noticed a new snack offering… Bugle gummy candy! Based on what I can read from the bag, it is original flavored and boasts a strong corn flavor with every bite.
Each gummy (or in Korea, they call it “jelly”) is shaped like a triangle. It’s covered in sugar and smells like corn right off the bat. Upon trying one, the corn flavor slapped me right in the face. It’s such an unexpected flavor for a gummy candy. It also had a hint of butter to it. It almost reminded me of popcorn-flavored jellybeans. It wasn’t awful, just unexpected. Corn is not a typical flavor for candy, but somehow made it work. I’m not sure if this is something I would buy on a regular basis. I don’t mind munching on it, but I prefer sour fruit-based jellies to ones that taste like buttered popcorn.
Overall, it was an interesting find. It was only 1,000won so nothing too heavy on the wallet. Can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
